The convention center being constructed by the Cebu Provincial Government for this December’s Asean Summit is 90 percent complete, officials said yesterday.
A media tour, according to this Sun.Star Cebu report, is scheduled tomorrow to show journalists the progress in the construction of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in the Mandaue reclamation area.
Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has expressed officials’ dismay on the continuing skepticism on whether the project can be completed in time for the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (Asean) Summit this December.
Garcia told reporters: “We push ourselves beyond human limitations. The least that we would expects is if they can’t try to encourage at all, and actually by some perversion would wish us to fail, that they’ll not try to mislead or convince the public into thinking that we are far behind.”
Work goes on at the construction site 24 hours a day. Capitol officials say work is ahead of schedule.
The CICC will serve as the main venue of the Asean Summit.
Meanwhile, Cebu’s furniture makers, renowned for their world-class designs and craftsmanship, have volunteered to furnish rooms at the CICC and at Shangri-la’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa for the summit.
The furniture makers, Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation member unit head Marlene Bedia told Sun.Star Cebu, “will highlight the best of Cebu’s furniture industry.” CFIF president Michael Basubas earlier said that the summit is the chance for the local furniture industry “to put its best foot forward.”
This truly hits home:
Garcia told reporters: “We push ourselves beyond human limitations. The least that we would expects is if they can’t try to encourage at all, and actually by some perversion would wish us to fail, that they’ll not try to mislead or convince the public into thinking that we are far behind.”
Shame to the people in the sideline making fun about the idea that it won’t be completed. How could they spend time imagining that, instead of showing concern and providing support…
I think we need more to develop the value of cooperation and unity.
