Christmas lanterns to adorn major Asean Summit routes

Local governments in Metro Cebu will be putting up native Christmas lanterns or “parols” on major streets as part of preparations for the coming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.

The Philippine Information Agency 7 reported that businesses and households in Cebu City have been asked to beautify their surroundings and put up Christmas decors and lights. The move is meant to highlight to visitors the Christmas tradition in the Philippines, a country reputed to have the longest Yuletide celebration worldwide.

Suicidal flies, a bird sanctuary, and Tubod Flowing Water Resort

When you come up for air in one of the swimming pools of Tubod Flowing Water Resort, don’t open your mouth to breathe. Its pools are littered with flies that dive into the water every few minutes. What’s even more curious is that the flies don’t die, they lie motionless on the pool’s sides after being scooped out of the water by resort workers but after a few minutes they stir and then fly away, only to dive back again in a few minutes.

Malaysia Airlines to fly to Cebu 4 times weekly

Malaysia Airlines will increase the frequency of flights between Cebu and Kuala Lumpur to four times a week. The carrier currently flies the route twice weekly.

Malaysia Airlines will fly between Cebu and Kuala Lumpur every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday starting Oct. 30, according to this Sun.Star Cebu report.

Marco Polo Hotel limits bookings to Asean Summit participants

Marco Polo Plaza (formerly Cebu Plaza Hotel) is no longer accepting bookings for December 1 to 15 except for delegates to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.

Hotel sales manager Arabella Barz said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu that this move is upon the instructions of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Night bazaar to open in Banilad Town Center

A bazaar that does business in the afternoon until midnight will soon open at the Banilad Town Center (BTC) parking lot extension. The “Christmas Nights Bazaar” will open from December 1 to 30 and will showcase native products from different areas nationwide as well as export goods and imports.

“The bazaar is tailored after the highly popular night markets in Manila,” Jan Vincent Soontit, productions manager for Crinnovent Corp., said in a company statement sent to Sun.Star Cebu. Crinnovent Corp. is the company organizing the event.
